iMonitor - A New Way to Promote Community Health

The new iMonitor app provides community members with direct access to general information about AIDS/HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, and community rights and prevention. Users also have the ability to locate the nearest health facility on the map, report a problem, issue, or stigma faced, and chat with other patients. Additionally, it allows community health organizations such as WOPLAH to send large-scale notifications to the community about updates, events, and awareness.

iMonitor has a built-in global positioning satellite technology that allows the app to locate users and connect them with nearby healthcare facilities. Community members can use this technology to find condom distribution locations, HIV/AIDS testing facilities, and other sites that offer counseling and treatment. If community members are unable to access resources locally the app allows them to report the issue and find other nearby locations using the GPS technology. Because all of these resources can be accessed anonymously, WOPLAH hopes that individuals will experience less stigma and feel empowered in their search for prevention resources and care.

WOPLAH is holding workshops to train community health volunteers on how iMonitor functions, so that they can share the app with the larger community and advocate for its use. The app will allow community members to provide anonymous feedback about the health services that are available to them. The feedback shared through the app can be accessed by WOPLAH, community health workers, and government officials who will be able to respond to the issues raised. This gives community members a voice and ensures that they have the power to enact change in their community healthcare systems.
