New Chicks Distributed for Poultry Rearing Projects!
On Monday October 14, four of the groups WOPLAH works with received chicks to start poultry rearing programs. To kickstart these programs, WOPLAH provides groups with 11 chicks and/or mature chickens. The group then works in collective to raise and feed the poultry so that they may benefit from eggs both as a rich protein source and as source of income, and as the poultry reproduce consume the chicken which is rich in nutrients and often consumed on holidays or celebrations.
(new chicks distributed to groups)
The poultry rearing project flexible in its scope; beneficiaries choose how many chicks to raise and can determine the size of their poultry project based on factors such as space for roosts and the cost of feed. Thus, is project also serves, in addition to being an income generating and nutrition program, but also as a personal financing initiative and community building activity.
Additionally, WOPLAHs poultry rearing project contributes to the long-term goal of circular farming and plays an integral role in the sustainability of each support groups ability to provide for each other within community. If you are interested in helping support the expansion of this program, please donate on the WOPLAH website.
Congratulations to WOPLAH on distributing chicks to over half of the support groups (24 of the 42 groups now have poultry rearing projects), and best of luck for those groups starting their poultry rearing projects!
