Our Village Banking Program
This past week, group leaders and volunteers for Village Banking. At this meeting, people present discussed the need to continue allowing the community to access community funds, improve both savings and investment culture, promote gender representation, and eliminate both physical and financial abuse in partner relationships.
WOPLAH has distributed surveys to Kenyans about the stigma of HIV and aids in their communities. Each community leader needs $3 to acquire internet for the day in order to collect responses. WOPLAH accepts contributions for this cause, and then once enough money is raised, the residual money goes towards The Village Banking program with WOPLAH. This program serves as a communal plot of money used to provide financial support for support groups so they can be empowered in their own microfinance system. These groups choose how they allocate the funds given. They often lend out small, low-interest loans to members, support group projects, and provide support for vulnerable orphans in the community.
