A Message From the Program Coordinator
Greetings from WOPLAH; it is a good day here in Mumias, Kenya. WOPLAH is a growing organization with a vision of achieving significant change in the community and continues to reach out to the most vulnerable families in Western Kenya.
Among current accomplishments, WOPLAH has greatly reduced stigma against people living positively with HIV/AIDS and their families. This was achieved through support group formation, the increased access to antiretroviral treatment, and through income generation activities. Through advocacy we have been able to support children with education and empowerment. Through the initiatives of kitchen gardens, households have grown to be able to support their basic needs, such as school fees, hygiene and food. Through community health dialogues, the community members have been able to access health services at the primary level, disease prevention and personal support. The jiggers campaign has also reached the community through education and preventative measures. Additionally, WOPLAH has been able to offer treatment to those infected with jiggers, along with shoes and blanket to prevent further infections. All of these initiatives have helped WOPLAH empower the community regarding health and development.
Thank you for your support and interest in our projects, such as the kitchen gardens, goats, community health dialogues, and jiggers campaign. WOPLAH’s main focus is creating equal access to health services and income generating activities at the community and household level. We look forward to more support in the future in order to fully achieve these goals.
Best,
Wetoyi Edwin
